Asus X555LJ, a decent choice for those who are looking for a budget laptop for daily tasks. With it’s Intel 5th Gen processor, plenty of storage option, Nvidia graphics memory and a decent design makes it a recommendation in budget laptop category. Asus X555LJ has a price of $550 for it’s base model with i3 processor, 4 GB memory and 1 TB HDD storage which is quite good up-to my recommendation. If you want to do more intensive tasks, then you can go for the high end variant with i5 processor, up-to 1 TB storage for a higher price.
Design & Display
The body of the device is made out of plastic which flexes a bit when you hold it but looks good. It is not a very portable device to carry because of it’s 2.2 Kg weight. The full-size chiclet keyboard with well spaced keys and 1.6 mm travel distance are easy to type on and is durable enough for 10 million keystrokes. Asus X555LJ screen size is good 15.6 in with 1366?768 resolution and LED back-lit panel. The screen glare is too much and viewing angles are also not great but satisfying.
RAM & Storage
The device comes with 4 GB DDR3(1600 MHz) memory which will let you do some casual works such as browsing, watching multimedia and very light editing work. Storage option is good for the price, 2.5″ SATA 1 TB HDD(5400 RPM) allows you to store enough data.
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
Asus X555LJ gives you two options in the processor, Intel i3 5th(3 MB cache) gen running at frequency of 2.1 GHz and i5 5th(3 MB cache) gen running at 2.2 GHz of base frequency and 2.7 GHz of turbo frequency. I recommend going for the i3 as it costs less and delivers you a value for the money, whereas the i5 variant is much expensive and not fulfills the price you have spent.
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
The Nvidia GeForce 920M with 2GB DDR3 memory is quite a good option that will allow you enjoy some gaming. It’s surely not for professionals to do tasks like rendering, editing or heavy gaming.
If you are looking for plenty of connectivity, you get it here with 1 VGA port, 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0, 1 RJ-45 LAN, 1 HDMI, a full-size SD card reader and even an optical drive(Super-Multi DVD). It has Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. Connectivity wise, it’s a value of money product to get plenty of ports that will fulfill your needs.
The speakers in the device are not that great and loud enough but throws clear sound at maximum volume. The Sonic Master speakers are not good enough to enjoy multimedia content, my recommendation is to use either headphones or external speakers. You also get a headphone-out jack and microphone.
The 2 cells 37 Whr Lithium Polymer battery provide enough uptime for 4-5 hours of casual work. If you want to game on it with some apps running in background, then you simply needs to plug in the charger and enjoy.
